It's a big Paper Covers Rock announcement
Festival dates, call for speakers, and a note on process
Updates
The Paper Covers Rock board is so excited to announce the dates for our next festival: October 3-4, 2025 on Salt Spring Island. After taking a hiatus last year to host a creative retreat in Italy, we’re thrilled to be hosting another event back on The Rock.
You can look forward to another memorable weekend including a kickass opening reception that’s free for all, readings (including for children), great music, resonant storytelling, and all the connections that spark during our tiny but mighty workshops.
In a world that is obsessed with growing bigger and richer, staying small is our superpower. Paper Covers Rock is an accessible lit festival done island style, and I don’t think there’s anything else quite like it. Our workshops are intentionally limited in size to foster openness and depth. And while no one is ever obligated to share, it’s hard to be a passive observer. (Take it from me: I have a fear of public speaking, and I’ve always felt so supported when participating in our workshops that I simply can’t not share.)
Now that we have dates in hand, we are putting out a call for speaker proposals. You can apply to participate with a reading or as a workshop facilitator. We pay all of our speakers the same rate regardless of fame or status.
You can learn more and apply here. The deadline for speaker pitches is July 30, 2025.
Process
I recently wrote about coming to terms with my own writing process, realizing that often times it’s more about composting than it is about actual writing. I blame this on my psychology degree. Have a read on my personal Substack:
Signing off
We’ll be ramping up the newsletter notes over the coming weeks, so I’ll leave it at that for today. If you have industry events you’d like me to share in our usual events section, please do reply to this email to let me know!
Here's a fun summery playlist for your pleasure. A few of us collaborated on this one for a tiki boat cruise to celebrate my 42nd birthday back in June. Good vibes within.
